About Me

A little about me and my approach;

Attia Zaidi

I consider myself both trauma-experienced and trauma-informed. My life experiences have given me a deeper understanding of the therapeutic process, and I value my work through this lens. I know firsthand the importance of authenticity and safety in the therapeutic relationship. I’m a laid-back, playful person who learned early on that life is bittersweet—and that a supportive hand should always be gentle.

I view my relationships with clients as partnerships. I bring the knowledge of self, while you bring the knowledge of the Self. My goal is to help others navigate their own “Silk Road,” whatever shape that journey may take.

I’m deeply fascinated by death and vulnerability, and I find great honor in sharing stories, shedding pretenses of perfection and self-righteousness. While pain is inevitable in life, I believe suffering can be alleviated. I follow evidence-based modalities and tailor my approach to the needs of each client. My style tends to lean towards DBT and narrative therapy, while integrating various approaches to understanding the psyche. I am also trained in modalities such as CBT, Gottman (level 2), IFS, psychodynamic & crisis intervention.

Before becoming a therapist, I taught English and History in several countries. Teaching remains a passion, and I’m always excited by the idea of groups and classes—there is so much healing in togetherness. If you have ideas for group work, I welcome you to reach out.

As a first-generation Canadian Muslim, I am inspired by Sufi philosophy. I welcome people from all walks of life—regardless of religion, race, or sexual orientation. I am an LGBTQ2S+ ally, and especially embrace those who feel marginalized or isolated. I work with individuals aged 16+ (teens and adults) and prefer working in-person though offer remote sessions as well. While I do not work directly with children, I offer support to their families.

I am deeply passionate about mental health in education, compassion-based spirituality (both secular and spiritual), social justice, and personal growth. My specialties include trauma recovery, particularly complex PTSD and attachment disorders.

On a personal note, I am endlessly curious and have too many interests to list. My love for travel and adrenaline sports fuels my sense of wonder. I also live with fibromyalgia, which means I sometimes hit my physical limits—but I’m determined to live life fully, with time set aside for recovery. 😊
